Alright so let’s talk digital marketing.

And in this episode I’m going to be pulling back the curtain and simplifying what is arguably one of the most powerful and important parts of growing a successful business and you’ll leave with not only a better understanding of what exactly digital marketing is, but how it actually works in the real world.

Because when it comes to digital marketing there is no lack of confusion, and as a marketer I blame myself and my industry for a lot of it. After all we’re infamous for using complicated jargon and insider terminology like SEO, PPC, CTA, CTR, and I could go on with dozens and dozens more.

To make things worse, many people often associate digital marketing with complicated software, coding, or building complex online marketing systems requiring dozens of people just to keep running.

No wonder so many people avoid it like the plague!

Now sure, digital marketing definitely has those parts in it, but that doesn’t mean you need to know how to do them all, or even really to know what all those things were in order to be successful with digital marketing.

Because digital marketing is actually a really simple concept.

Digital Marketing Strategies For Small Business (… My TOP 20 Tips & Tricks)

Digital Marketing Strategies For Small Business

If you’ve got a small business to run then you know the importance of choosing your digital marketing strategy wisely. After all the right digital marketing strategy can either make or break your marketing before it’s even launched, which is why on this episode I’m giving you 20… (yes, 20) of my top Digital Marketing Strategies For Small Businesses for you to choose from so you can build the perfect digital marketing strategy for you and your business.

Now rather than dive into the nitty-gritty specifics of each and everyone… which would make for a full day viewing affair, I’m going to give you 20 of the top strategies that I’ve seen work wonders for small businesses in order to generate more leads, customers, and sales.

One more quick note, you’re going to notice some overlap between these, and that’s ok, just pick out the 2, 3, or maybe even 4 areas you think you’re going to be able to shine and focus there to start. Some items are going to be high level, and some more specific but this is intentional, because some things need to be looked at on both a macro and a micro level in order to really understand how they might be valuable to your business.

The goal here is to flood your brain with possibilities so you can see what resonates and what doesn’t enabling you to dive in deeper later on the points you feel would give your business the most bang for your marketing buck.

Because at the end of the day it’s less about the tactics and more about the strategy behind them, and remember, a well executed but only average strategy will massively outperform a terribly executed but amazing strategy because at the end of the day, it’s what gets done, and gets done well that actually matters.

Also make sure to stick around until the end of the video because while I’ve listed the first 18 strategies in no particular order, it’s the final two items that I believe are the two single most powerful points to consider for small businesses today.

The rate at which the world of digital marketing changes is enough to make your head spin.

But one of the best decisions you can make for your business is to anticipate those shifts, educate yourself on trends, and tweak your strategies along the way.

And that’s what this video is all about.

Let’s talk trends. Learning and adapting to developing trends can mean the difference between being Blockbuster or Netflix.

With that, I’ll admit, it can be overwhelming trying to decide where to devote time and attention to.

So the key to making it work for you is to keep it simple and decide which trends are worth focusing your marketing efforts on and which ones you can ignore, for now.

What Is A Marketing Funnel?

Click here to work with me: https://bit.ly/2FY2vzF

Marketing Funnels are one of the hottest topics in the world of business and marketing right now and for good reason. But what exactly is a marketing funnel, and more importantly, how can you harness the power of this incredible tool in your business to generate more leads and sales?

So What exactly Is A Marketing Funnel? Well, A marketing funnel sometimes called a sales funnel, conversion funnel, or just plain old funnel, is a system that allows you to track the customer journey from having no idea who you are right through to becoming a lifelong loyal customer, and every step in-between.

# The Elevation Marketing Process

My suggestion is to use something along the lines of The Elevation Marketing Process which goes: Traffic – Conversion – Ascension – Elevation

1. Traffic

Step 1 is to identify where your prospective customers (let’s call them leads) are coming from. Are they finding you through social media, a search engine, or a paid ad you’re running. Once you’ve identified your traffic sources you can start to compare and pit them against one another. And may the strongest traffic source win! As a side note, these leads who have never heard about you or your business before are called “cold”

2. Conversion

Once your lead has arrived at your website, store front, or landing page, the next step is to get them to make a micro-commitment and take some form of action. If you’re selling a low priced item (like a pack of gum) than that action could be a sale. If you’re selling a higher priced item (like a car) than that micro-commitment could be a smaller action (like going for a test drive). The point here is that you want to encourage them to take the next logical step in the relationship, whether it’s exchanging their contact information like their name, email, or phone number, or even agreeing to a follow up meeting. At this stage your lead is now “warm”

3. Ascension

Alright, at this point in the funnel you’re going to be working with fewer leads than you started with. But that’s ok! Because those that are still with you are a higher quality lead, and are more interested in what you have to offer. They’ve also taken some form of action or micro-commitment and are a lot more open to what you have to offer next. It’s at this stage that you want to begin the follow-up process and really bring the value. Continue to nurture your leads by providing more valuable and helpful information but at the same time, don’t be afraid to ask for the sale. If you’ve done a good job at guiding them along their journey up until this point the next logical step should be your core offer, product, or service. When your “warm” lead buys and exchanges their money for your product or service they become “hot”.

4. Elevation

It’s now time to really bring on the value and elevate your relationship with your customers. Following up with your recent buyers is one of the fastest ways to solidify your position as a business that truly cares. Buyers remorse is very real, and is alive and well across all markets and industries, so the first 24-48 hours after making a purchase is a critical time to calm any anxieties and affirm your new customers decision to do business with your company. It’s also unexpected. Which makes it an even nicer surprise, and part of the system to turn elevate your customers into brand evangelists who tell their friends, family, coworkers, and sometimes even strangers, about just how great your business is.

Digital Marketing Trends 2017

Digital Marketing Trends 2017 – 6 key digital marketing elements to grow your business, connect with your customers, and get more leads and sales. It was the Greek philosopher Heraclitus who said “the only constant is change”. Now… he probably wasn’t talking about marketing (I mean, I don’t know for sure, but I have a pretty good idea) but his words ring just as true today as they did over 2000 years ago. Change is inevitable. And when it comes to marketing your business, you have two choices. Adapt Or suffer the consequences of being irrelevant.

With more choices available now than ever before which are the ones that are going to provide the biggest bang for your marketing buck? And which will just waste your time, money, and energy?

Well the following tools have all proven themselves – no risky gambles here – and for many – are still untapped resources just waiting to help launch your brand awareness, authority, and attraction into the stratosphere. So without further ado, let’s dive into them.

1) Web Design

Your website is your businesses hub and the center of your online universe. The beauty and importance of your website is that it’s a controlled and brandable asset that you own (unlike the social media channels many naïve business owners mistakenly use in place of a website). In 2017 your website should be: Clean, Responsive, And beautifully designed. If it’s “none of the above” then you don’t have an asset, you have a liability.

2) SEO

97% of all searches for local businesses begin online. This isn’t hard to believe.

Think about the last time you needed to find something like a Plumber, a Lawyer, a Landscaper, a Dentist, a Florist, a drycleaner, or anything really. The odds are good that if you’re like 97% of people you probably started your search on Google, Yahoo, or Bing.

3) Social Media

Social media “humanizes” brands and businesses in a way that nothing else can. The key with social media is to choose the platforms or channels that your customers actually use, and then interact with them there.

4) Facebook Ads (PPC)

Facebook ads work! Plain and simple. In fact, for 95% of businesses they are the most effective form of advertising available today (both in regards to cost and results). A Bold statement. But Totally true.

5) Email Marketing

Email is alive and kicking and offers unprecedented access to one of your customers most intimate places – their email inbox. Not only that, most people check their email multiple times a day. Giving you have multiple opportunities to get your message right in front of people. And all for one of the least expensive forms of marketing available.

6) Podcasting

I saved the best for last. My top pick to add to your marketing toolkit in 2017 is pocasting. Podcasting is a disruptive force that’s providing it’s adopters with benefits far outweighing its costs.

Here are the facts:

1) Podcast popularity is growing

2) Podcasting gives you something no other media does – longer access and attention.

3) It’s a relatively untapped and underserved market

4) Podcasting is actually pretty easy to do! (but shhhh… most people don’t know that)

There are also services out there like Podcast Zen (http://podcastzen.com/) which is the one I use for my podcast and recommend to anyone thinking about taking advantage of this powerful tool – that will handle every single techy step for you. From editing and uploading your podcast to creating amazing blog quality show notes and custom graphics. All you need to do is talk, and they take care of the rest.

When you combine these three facts you’re presented with a powerful marketing tool. One that not only give you direct access to your customers for longer periods of time, but one that is also growing daily in popularity, and has a relatively low barrier of entry because on the outside it looks a lot more challenging than it really is. Great news for you! (But don’t tell that to your competitors). Even though podcasting has been around for a few years, it’s only in this last year that things really started moving – and will continue that trend into 2017 and beyond.

How To Do Market Research – Basic Online Market Research For Your Business

How great would it be to know what your customers wanted before they even asked for it? Can you imaging what it would do for your business and your reputation to always have a collection of highly sought after products or services?
You’d quickly become the go-to expert in your field and customers would know they could count on you to solve their problems quickly and easily.
And that’s why on this episode of we’re talking all about market research, and I’ll give you 5 ways to know what your customers want before they even do.
#1 Google Trends
Google trends allows you to track which keywords are increasing in popularity and provides suggestions for other terms that are rising in search volume. This is a hugely valuable tool and for the most part is largely ignored, which means that by using it you’re gaining valuable insights that your competitors are likely not using.
#2 Google Keyword Planner
To use the keyword planner you first need to sign up for a free Google Adwords account. Even if you’re not planning on advertising it’s still a good thing to have. From there you can access their free Keyword Planner, type in a keyword and receive not only the number of searches for that keyword, but also a list of suggested keywords that people are looking for online each and every month.
#3 Facebook Insights
The best way to use Facebook Insights is to post a variety of different content to your business page (all related to your business of course) and see which posts get the most engagement (such as likes, shares, and comments). From there you can determine what type of content your audience is most interested in so you can start to create more just like it, and eventually, products and services around those subjects.
#4 Twitter Insights
Twitter audiences allow you to really drill down on the types of things your customers and followers are interested in. As an example, for my account I can see that my audience is made up mostly of people interested in entrepreneurship, marketing, travel, and technology.
#5 Google Alerts
The final piece of our customer understanding puzzle comes again from the search engine giant, Google. Google Alerts allows you to monitor what’s happening with your customers right now. The way to use Google Alerts is to enter a keyword that you would like to track into the search bar at the top of the page, then Google will email you when this keyword appears online. You can use this to track your businesses name, the industry you’re in, your own name, your competitors, or pretty much anything else you can think of.
Customer Insights
Using even one of these tools can help you gain a better understanding of your customers. But when you combine all 5, you’re really able to create a clear and compelling picture of your customers wants, needs, and behaviors.
And the better you understand them, the better you’re able to come up with value providing services and solutions to their problems.

Digital Marketing Analytics – Why It Is Important To Understand Your Metrics

Are you tired of not being able to track your digital marketing results? And do you wish there was an easy way to quickly figure out what’s working, and what’s not, so you didn’t waste your time and money on ineffective marketing tactics?

If so, then you’re in the right place, as on this episode we’re going be diving in head first to take on the mistakenly overly complicated world of digital marketing analytics, so you can quickly learn what you need to watch and measure, and what you can leave behind.

The truth behind digital marketing analytics is that they can be as simple or as complicated as you want them to be.

So here are 5 easy to use and easy understand digital marketing metrics that you can start tracking today.

1: Website Visitors

The easiest place to start is by taking a look at your website traffic and it’s number of visitors.

While this is somewhat of a vanity metric, meaning that it may not directly relate to the bottom line, it is helpful in measuring and tracking how many people are visiting your businesses virtual store front.

2: Bounce Rate

Your bounce rate is the number of people who visit your site and then quickly leave, or bounce off.

Here is where we want to see a low number, as this means that people are sticking around and having more of a look through your content.

3: Number Of Email Subscribers

Just like with website visitors, you want to see a steady increase of email subscribers over time.

It doesn’t matter what business you’re in, the odds are good that you could benefit by using an email marketing strategy.

4: Click Through Rate (CTR)

Your click through rate refers to how many people took action and clicked on one of your posts or advertisements.

CTR is a valuable metric to watch anytime you’re creating an ad for any of the social or search engine platforms, as a high click through rate means that what your ad is saying is relevant and interesting enough for someone to want to click and learn more.

5: Lifetime Customer Value

Lifetime customer value can be one of the most challenging, but also one of the most valuable metrics to watch and track.

While there are a number of pretty fancy and expensive software tools and services out there that can help, even having a rough, general idea of the lifetime value of a customer to your business is still beneficial to your digital marketing campaigns.

How to Create a Digital Marketing Strategy

All the fancy new tactics in the world don’t mean much if they’re not based on a solid foundation and well thought out digital marketing strategy. This is because the number of times you post, the social media channels you use, or the content you create are all completely irrelevant if you don’t have the right market, message, and mindset in place. Which is why on today’s episode we’re talking all about setting you up for success by creating an effective digital marketing strategy.

1) Mindset

The first step in creating an effective digital marketing strategy comes down to mindset and how you approach your marketing, and your business. I strongly, firmly, almost evangelically believe that your goal as a business owner or entrepreneur is to aim to be the best in your market. Now “best” can mean any number of different things including the fastest, nicest, cleanest, most polite, most beautiful, most fun, or whatever, but you should aim to dominate in at least one of these areas.

2) Market

The next step in creating a digital marketing strategy is to clearly identify your target market and ideal customer or client. The better you’re able to describe exactly who it is you’re trying to serve the more effective all of your future marketing efforts will be.

3) Message

As we just covered, the better you understand your target market the better you’ll be able to make them feel understood. And that’s what marketing is all about. Making your ideal customer or client feel heard, valued, and cared for.

4) Media

Without a doubt, choosing the right media option is the area I see business owners and entrepreneurs struggle with most. And understandably too. After all, there are an overwhelming amount of options to choose from when trying to decide how to connect with customers and effectively communicate your value online.

Digital Marketing Basics – Basic marketing techniques to grow your business | Modern Marketing Ep 7

Digital marketing (aka online marketing or sometimes even internet marketing) can be tricky, especially without a solid digital marketing strategy. Which is why on this episode we’re talking about the ever important, digital marketing basics, basic marketing techniques to grow your business.

Without a solid foundation rooted in digital marketing strategy all the marketing tools & tips to grow your business just won’t work.

Whether it’s social media, SEO, email marketing, or online advertising, the way to make your digital marketing campaigns truly effective is to first start with a solid foundation rooted in the fundamentals.

A little bit of marketing research done ahead of time can literally save you thousands (for big campaigns even hundreds of thousands) of dollars and days, weeks, months, even years of your precious time.

So what exactly are the basic digital marketing strategies I’m talking about?

STEP 1: Define your target market

This step really can’t be overstated. In fact, it really doesn’t matter whether we’re talking traditional or digital marketing, the same concept applies in that you NEED to first identify who it is you’re trying to reach. This is because only from here can you decide what to say, how to say it, and where to say it. The better you understand your target market and their dreams and fears the better and more effective your marketing will be.

Step 2: Use native content

If you want to look like an amateur entrepreneur then simply create a piece of content and blast it out across all 15 different social media networks you use. Sure, there’s a time and a place for syndicating and sharing content (we’re all busy and it saves a lot of time when done right) but you also want to be respectful of the platforms, and more importantly, of the viewers and users of that platform. So when you can, try to make your content looks like it was made for the channel, and that it belongs there.

Step 3: Track everything

Measure your marketing metrics! The first step here is to know your KPI’s or key performance indicators so you can track what’s working and what’s not. From there, start slow, and focus on just 1 or 2 key things and you’ll quickly be able to tell if your marketing is working (in which case you should scale it up!) or not working (in which case you may want to tweak or delete it)

Whether you’re doing it on your own or working with an agency, knowing a thing or two about the basics is always a good plan!

Digital Marketing Trends in 2018

2018 brings exciting (and profitable) Digital Marketing trends and opportunities. This video explains which ones to care about (plus free tools to ensure your success in the year ahead.) The key to making it work for you is to keep it simple and decide which trends are worth focusing your marketing efforts on.

Here are a few to consider.  And remember, any links mentioned are a click away in the description below:

Facebook Ads:
Despite the rising cost, Facebook Ads are still cheap compared to traditional media.

If you’re considering running Facebook Ads and need inspiration, you can download my free Facebook Ad image guide that helps you cut your costs and boost your results by up to 80%. http://adamerhart.com/opt-business-fb-ads-guide

 Content and Context Marketing:

Demand for high-quality original content has never been higher.
To meet demands in 2018, you must become a publishing force of nature by creating well-thought-out content tailored to the specific needs and desires of your market, as well as deliver it on their platforms of choice.

If you’re not exactly thrilled about cranking out more content, download my fast content formula to help you create effective content quickly. http://adamerhart.com/opt-fast-content-formula

Video:
Here’s two reasons to get over your fear of the camera: Mobile video consumption is expected to rise by 35% this year and video marketing generates a reported 66% increase in leads.

It really is the next best thing to being in-person and allows you to engage with your audience on a level comfortable to them.

If you want to start driving sales with video but don’t know what to say, you can download my video ad template and script by clicking the link in the description below. http://adamerhart.com/opt-60-second-video-ad-template

Personalization:
Drip is an email marketing platform that allows you to tag website visitors and assign them to various campaigns based on their behavior.

Right Message is software that personalizes your website in real time with features like dynamic opt-ins and swapping in testimonials from people similar to the viewer.

The market is hungry for authenticity and transparency.

Brands that fail to adapt will unravel and those with an honest, trustworthy presence earn their way into the hearts and wallets of their market.

Community

There’s never been a time when know, like, and trust have been so crucial to not just business success but survival.

That’s why building and serving a community of your ideal target market should be a core focus of your marketing strategy in 2018.

Harnessing the power of much needed connection and delivering value will create the trust your audience needs to become loyal customers and brand ambassadors.

You can engage with your community on social media but email is ideal, as it offers more control and remains an effective system to nurture relationships.

Whatever route you take, investing in a community of your own is sure to pay off in dividends.

Voice search and latent semantic indexing

Google Assistant, Siri, Cortana, and Alexa offer the convenience of hands free internet search and the world is taking advantage of it.

A predicted 50% of all searches will be voice searches by the year 2020 and we’re well on our way to hitting the mark.

But it’s more than just cool technology.

For businesses, it’s a goldmine of opportunity to generate highly targeted leads and skyrocket conversion rates.

Websites optimized for voice search using latent semantic indexing will earn that precious rank at the top of search results.

Start preparing now if you haven’t already.

Social Mobile Dominance

Mobile use is up, social media use is up, and social media use on mobile devices is definitely up.

You need to have a mobile specific social media focus.

This as a solid opportunity to stand out and get your offers directly in front of your target market.

But the game is played differently on the small screen and your desktop strategy won’t do.

Everything from the length of your copy to your ad formats impact your views and visibility.

Invest in understanding the moving parts of mobile social media marketing to optimize your strategy for maximum engagement and profitability

The truth is, digital marketing is simplifying and progressing toward its roots of authenticity, values and human to human connection.

That’s a prospect even the rebels of change can appreciate. Here’s to making 2018 your best year yet.

Which of these trends speaks to you the most? Let us know in the comments section below!
