The law of reciprocity is a simple psychological ‘hack’ whereby if someone is given something, they can’t help but feel the need to respond in kind.
This is extremely powerful as a marketer because if we continue to deliver value to our audience, if we offer free information that can help them and free items such as ebooks, videos or personal assistance, then it is likely our audience will want to reciprocate.
This is one of many online marketing hacks, but indeed one that many marketers make great use of. Think of all the online forms you’ve seen. Most, if not all will offer an incentive of some kind in order to optin.
The law of reciprocity is something that works just as well for offline businesses as well. If you’re in sales and you are able to give something to a consumer, it is more likely they will buy from you as well.
This is just one marketing hacks 2019, but in reality this has worked for years and will continue to work for years to come.
