See in 2019 content won’t rank as well as it used to. Yes they say content is king, but you already know there’s over a billion blogs. Nowadays Google isn’t just picking from, hey what content do we wanna rank, ’cause we lack content. They’re like, we have content on everything under the sun, and the same thing a hundred other times. So now they’re just not picking, what content do we wanna rank? They’re looking at authority, user metrics, they’re even looking at when was the content created. Why would they wanna rank a content that’s two years old, when they can rank something that’s less than one week old. So when it comes to content marketing in 2019, you need to make sure that your content’s also being up to date. If you don’t update your old content, you’re not going to get as much love as people who’re continually pushing out new fresh content.

Second tip I have for you is don’t regurgitate the same information over and over again. People are tired of reading 12 SEO tips that’ll double your traffic. You can google it, there’s probably different variations of that number, but there’s probably hundreds of articles on that subject. Write something new, fresh, that hasn’t been seen before, you’re more likely to get traffic, rankings, and even social shares.

I know you’re not gonna like this third tip, but the third tip for you guys is to create video and audio based content. Text is overrated, it doesn’t help you connect with people as much as video. I still love text, I still crank out text, but the future is video. It’s much more personable, people get to know you, your personality, your company better. So create video based content, upload it to YouTube, Linkedin, heck you can even do Twitter and Instagram if it’s short enough, and of course Facebook. Don’t share the same video over and over again, like sharing your YouTube video on Facebook. You gotta take that video all over again, and reupload it into Facebook. Linkedin for example, you gotta reupload the video all over again versus sharing the link to that Facebook video. Or that YouTube video. Now with audio you wanna create a podcast, it’s easy, you can just bust out your phone, create a audio file, upload it to Itunes or Lip Sync, and you’re off and to the races. Same with video, you don’t actually have to go into a studio like I am, and shoot all these fancy videos and pay money. You can just bust out your phone. I would even say most the time, from all the tests we’ve ran, the videos that you end up running on your iPhone convert better if you’re selling a product or service. So there’s nothing wrong with doing that. Just look at Tai Lopez, he’s known for just busting out his phone, and recording videos and it does very well for him.

And the last tip I have for you is promoting your content. In 2019 you gotta spend more time promoting than writing.

[07:47] Google has the majority of the revenue, with Facebook a close second.
[10:06] In general, social shares are declining.
[10:25] Google doesn’t penalize for duplicate content.
[12:25] If you don’t keep updating your content, you won’t maintain your rankings.
[14:11] Conversion rate optimization is not sexy, but it’s effective.

eCommerce SEO: How to Bring Organic Traffic to Your Online Store

eCommerce marketing is competitive. Google wants you to spend money on paid advertising. So how do you rank your set organically without spending money on paid ads? Today I’m going to teach you how to bring organic traffic to your online store.

RESOURCES & LINKS:

Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/

7 Proven Ways to Grow eCommerce Sales By 50% or More : https://youtu.be/ECFguym4230
____________________________________________

So step one, identify how people are searching for your products on Google.

You got to do keyword research. I want you to go to Ubersuggest, look at your products that you’re selling, type them into Ubersuggest.

It’ll give you suggestions for all the other keywords that people are typing in.

Some of them will be more popular than your keywords, some of them will be less popular.

But it’ll give you an idea of what people are looking for.

If you don’t know what people are looking for, how do you know what to optimize your pages for?

The second step, I want you to look up your competitors in Ubersuggest.

Type in their URL. Once you type in their URL, I want you to do a few things. The first is go to the Top Pages section. The Top Pages section shows you all their pages, more so, that are ranking in Google, the keywords that each of those ranks for, and who’s linking to them.

Then, I want you to go to the Keywords Report in the Traffic Analyzer.

The Keywords Report shows you a laundry list of all the keywords that are ranking for them, from the most popular to the least popular.

This again will help you figure out what keywords you should be targeting.

Without this, you won’t know where to focus your attention on.

Step number three, I want you to optimize your product pages for those keywords.

I’m talking about include those keywords in the title tag, the meta description, within your product description, right?

It needs to be everywhere, H1 tags. By doing that, search engines will know that you’re targeting those keywords.

The next step, optimize your pages, especially the product pages, for user experience.

Here’s what I mean. Everyone thinks about eCommerce SEOs like I need to build links, I need to pop in keywords.

Yes, that is important.

But if people get a terrible experience, they’re going to leave your site.

If they leave your site, they’re not going to come back.

Google’s going to notice a high bounce rate.

Boom, your rankings are going to tank, or in some cases, they’re never going to go up because you weren’t ranking in the first place.

But you optimize that user experience. Have beautiful images, have videos that showcase your product.

Have reviews, whether they’re good or bad, just reviews that are transparent.

All this stuff helps improve the user experience, helps you build trust, helps you get more sales in the long run.

It also helps you rank higher.

Next up, I want you to build links. You already used the Ubersuggest tool to see who’s linking to your competitors, right, based off their top pages.

The next step, continually update your pages.

Here’s the thing that no one really talks about in Google’s algorithm.

Do you know what one of the biggest factors is?

How fresh is your content?

Have you noticed that Wikipedia continually ranks?

It’s because they constantly have people updating their content and their pages.

If you’re not doing that, you won’t rank as high.

Next step, interlink your products.

Cross-link them, cross-promote them together. Not only does that help increase total cart size.

It helps increase the link juice that is flowing to all your pages, so they all end up ranking better.

The next step, make sure your site is mobile compatible.

And what I mean by mobile compatible, don’t just have your site, you know, be responsive and your checkout work on a mobile device.

I’m talking about having your site also load extremely fast.

If it loads fast, you have good page speed, what you’ll find is your rankings for all mobile drastically increase.

Page speed is more important on mobile from everything that we’ve tested than desktop.

So the mobile experience is not just about responsive and the user experience. It’s also about speed.

And speed not only improves conversion rates, but it also improves your rankings.

Last but not least, use schema markups for your product.

Doing this will help your rankings.

You’ll combine all of this, you’ll find that your eCommerce site can rank.

Sure, you should still do paid ads, especially if they’re profitable.

But you should do both. Go after the SEO traffic and paid.

How to Ace a Digital Marketing Job Interview

You got this opportunity for this amazing digital marketing job, but you’re nervous, you’re stressed out. What questions are they going to ask you? What should you prepare? What happens if something goes wrong and you don’t have the right answer? Will you lose the job? Will you get it? Today I’m going to teach you how to ace that digital marketing job interview.

How to Start A Career in Digital Marketing in 2019 : https://youtu.be/DoLzQN1m7sU
____________________________________________

Tip number one, give past examples.

Look, if you’re going for an interview at a digital marketing job and you can show that you’ve done amazing stuff in the past, you’re going to be better off.

If you don’t have examples of client stuff that you’ve done or stuff that you did for other jobs or other companies, well what you should consider doing in the short-run is creating your own website.

When you create your own website and you start doing experiments, at least you can show that.

That’s better than nothing else out there.

Another tip, when you’re interviewing, look at the company you’re applying to.

See how they could improve. Go into the interview being like, “Hey, are you open to suggestions? “Well, based on what I can see, what you’re doing, “what your competition’s doing, I would do one, two, “and three that’s different. “Have you tested these things out? “If so, what are the results?”

And if you’re not sure to figure out what they’re doing versus what their competitors are doing, check out tools like Ubersuggest.

The other thing, I hate it when people interview with me and they use fancy words.

Don’t try to use buzz words or fancy words to show that you’re smart.

Tell me how I can fix stuff. If you can’t tell me how I can fix stuff, I don’t care.

So let’s go over some of the most common questions.

#1 What is your experience with digital marketing?

If you can’t break down what you’ve done, whether it’s for someone else or your own experience running your own website, you’re going to have a tough time getting the job.

What are your qualifications?

How do you learn digital marketing?

You need solid answers for this. And typically, you want to focus. Your qualifications shouldn’t be you’re a jack of all trades.

The market’s changing. People aren’t really hiring jack of all trades.

They’re hiring people who specifically specialize in tactics like SEO, pay-per-click, Facebook Advertising.

Heck, we have people in my ad agency, Neil Patel Digital, that just specialize in Facebook Advertising.

We have a whole different group of people that just specialize in Google AdWords.

So it’s okay to specialize. Companies prefer that.

And we tend to hire people who specialize versus generalists. Because the ones who specialize, yeah they may not be able to do everything, but the things they do do, they’re going to do a much better job at it.

You also want to ask yourself, “Hey, what would you do differently in that company, in that marketing department?”

Not just from tactical on the site, could be structurally.

Whatever it may be, if you can’t answer that, then you’re probably not going to do too well in an interview.

And it can’t just be some general answers like, “Oh yeah, I would test out SEO, I would test out content marketing.”

It needs to be specific.

“Look, I noticed that your competitors blog on a lot of educational advice, and based on this data that I found from Ubersuggest, they’re getting traffic and backlinks.”

Do you see how I went really specific in that?

That’s what people want to see when you’re being interviewed.

You also are probably going to be asked, what digital marketing tools do you use?

How would you deploy them if you got this job?

How would you use them?

You don’t want to give generic answers like, “I use Google Analytics.”

Everyone says they use Google Analytics.

You need to get very specific and actually show if you want to say, “I use Google Analytics,” you’ll be like, “Well I use Google Analytics and I know you guys do too but have you guys been checking out the cohort report? What a cohort report does is it shows you how many people are continually coming back to your site. If they continually come back, you’ll build a stronger brand. If they don’t, you won’t build a strong brand.”

Those are the types of questions people are going to ask, and when you have answers to them, that’s how you ace your job.

3 Ways to Promote Your Website When You Don’t Have Any Money

Who says you need money to market your business. That’s one of the biggest myths in online marketing.

Heck, online marketing is popular because it allows the little guy to compete with the large corporations without needing tons of cash.

Here’s how you market your website when you have no money.

Step 1: Go to Quora and search for all of the questions that people have within your space and answer them. When it makes sense, link back out to your website. This is so effective that my Quora profile gets hundreds of thousands of views each month.

Step 2: Create content in different formats (text, video, audio) and promote them on the social web (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Quora). You can post the same content on multiple social sites as Google DOES NOT penalize for duplicate content.

When using this tactic make sure you only put part of your content on social media and make the readers click over back to your site to read the rest.

Step 3: Google for forums within your space and respond to questions. Within your forum response add a signature that lists your website. The better response you give the more traffic you will get.

That’s how you market your website when you can’t spend any money on marketing. 🙂

Even if you work at a company, these skills will help you.

So let’s get right into it.

The first skill you need is data science.

You don’t have to be a crazy data scientist, but you need to learn how to look at Google Analytics.

There are so many videos out there that teach you how to read a report, because Google Analytics isn’t just about, “Hey, how many visitors am I getting?”

It’s more about “How many visitors am I getting,”

If you don’t know to look at the data, you won’t know where to focus your energy to maximize your results.

The second skill to learn is content strategy.

Writing content doesn’t guarantee you any traffic anymore.

There are over a billion blogs on the web.

There are roughly seven billion people, so that means roughly one blog for every seven people.

That’s too much content.

So, if you want to do well, you need a strategy.

Without a strategy, there’s no guarantee that people are going to read your content.

The third tip you need is you need to learn how to leverage video.

Video is up-and-coming as one of the most popular channels out there.

I’m talking about filming videos like this one and releasing it, evergreen content, on YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, you need to do a ton of video stuff because you’ll find it’ll build a much more engaging community than almost any other channel out there.

The fourth skill you need to learn is storytelling.

I don’t know why, but I’m seeing less and fewer people use storytelling, but storytelling is still as effective as it used to be two, three, five, ten years ago.

You need to integrate stories into your marketing.

When you do that, you’ll find that more people relate to you.

They’ll identify with the characters in your story, and you’ll notice that your conversion rate goes up.

The fifth skill that you need to learn is email marketing.

And I’m not talking about just basic email marketing, like sending out emails every time you release a blog post, but more complicated emails.

I’m talking more so marketing automation.

Well, if someone goes through your funnel, they don’t open up one email, what should they do next?

If they open up that email, what should they get?

You don’t want to send everyone the same emails.

The sixth skill is funnels.

There are tools like ClickFunnels out there that can help you build a funnel faster and easier, and funnels are really important because ad costs keep rising.

You need to learn how to do upsells and downsells.

You may not be thinking “Oh, that’s not related “to marketing, why do I need to learn that?”

Well, if you can’t figure out upsells and downsells, eventually, you’re not going to be able to afford your paid ads.

That’ll help improve your margin so you can keep selling.

The seventh skill that you need to learn is podcasting.

Podcasting hasn’t taken off in the U.S. as much as it has in Asia, like places like China.

But podcasting is growing at a very rapid pace, and people are listening to podcasts on the go.

Plus, the people who listen to podcasts are super engaged, and they typically have a higher income percentage-wise, from a medium-household-income perspective, than other marketing channels out there.

And that’s why you need to get into podcasting now.

It’ll be much more competitive in three, four years.

Then it’s going to be hard.

And when you do podcasting, don’t expect to get results right away.

It’ll take years before you see the fruit from your labor.

Now, if you need help crafting your digital marketing and growing your traffic, check out my ad agency, Neil Patel Digital.
