Back when I got started, it was easy to make a killing with digital marketing. All you got to do is rank some random blog spot website or WordPress.com website. Throw on some affiliate links and boom, you’re off to the races. But things have changed a lot in marketing. In order to get decent results, most business owners have to invest a lot of money in traffic and a lot of money in automation, or content creation, or even social media. The question is, how do you invest money, in order to get results with digital marketing. Today, I’m going to break down, can you still do digital marketing for free? The real cost of digital marketing.

The answer is in short, and I have a much longer version as well, which I’ll go into. But the answer in short is, what doesn’t cost you money, will cost you time. You can do digital marketing for free, as long as you’re willing to make a consistent investment in time and effort, in order to get good results.

So let’s say hypothetically, you’re willing to put in the time. Well if you’re willing to put in the time, let me break down how you can do it for free and get results!

The first tip I have for you is give away something that’s invaluable, for free.

Unlimited guides, free courses, self-discovery journeys, quizzes assessment tools, proprietary industry reports, data stats, this all helps. Anything that’s above and beyond. You’ll notice that I didn’t really say, “Hey just write a blog post.” Well everyone’s giving away a blog post for free. If you’re not going above and beyond, doing something that’s different, more unique than the competition, you’ won’t do that well.

The second tip for you is leverage third-party audiences.

Co-host webinars. Co-host live and social media sessions on YouTube, or Facebook, or Instagram. Do round-ups. You can hit up other people, do round ups, everyone wants to participate, because they’re getting some love and some PR and you can link out to them. Then when you post that content, you can ask them to share it. That does really well.

The third tip I have for you, is content marketing.

What I want you to do is type in the keywords that you’re trying to write content around and to Ubersuggest. It could be one or two-word phrases. It can be, you know, general theme-based keywords, like SEO or marketing. And in Ubersuggest, I want you to click on the content ideas report. This will show you all the other blog topics that were written on this subject, that were popularly based on social shares and backlinks.

Now the fourth tip I have for you, push out a ton of video content and when I mean video content, I’m not just talking about recording your video, like you’re watching right here.

That could be on YouTube or Instagram or Facebook or LinkedIn. I’m also talking about doing live video, right? You can do simulcasting, so that way you can go on live on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn, all at once. Keep this in mind.

The fifth tip I have for you is podcasting.

You can just bust out your iPhone, start recording on it and then boom, start uploading it. I use LipSyn. That’s what most people use for their podcast.

The sixth tip I have for you, Facebook groups.

You want to give away a ton of valuable tips, create content and video content, not just link out to your site, but content that just keeps people on these platforms and educates.

The seventh tip I have for you is build an email list and leverage automation.

So you can use tools like Hello Bar, to build an email list. It’s free. It allows you to collect emails through sliders, exit popups, super effective.

And if you’re doing this, might as well leverage push notifications as well, because then through push notifications, through tools like subscribers, you can also do automation.

The eighth tip I have for you, is to use funnels, instead of going straight to selling. Look, everyone’s just like, “Sell, sell, sell.” You know, think about this. Let’s say you’re in a relationship, or if you’re not, your parents were in a relationship. You know and they had you, hence you’re here.

Someone comes to your website, you’re like, “Marry me, marry me, give me your wallet. “Spend, spend, spend.” That doesn’t work as well as educating, getting to know people. So what I like doing is creating a ton of content. Like this video.

The Definition of Digital Marketing by Neil Patel

When it comes to digital marketing there’s a lot of confusion involved. What is digital marketing? What is it for? People make it a lot more complicated than it really is. But, it’s really easy to understand which is why I wanted to make this detailed introduction video that will just break it down for you. Today I’m going to break down the definition of digital marketing by me in my own words.

Essentially, digital marketing is a form of marketing that encompasses the use of digital tools or channels to communicate to your audience.

A good example of this is a channel that you may use to communicate to your audience is Facebook. When you post on Facebook, whether you have one follower or a million, you’re communicating to your audience. If you use tools like mini chat to put a Facebook message out or text message out, that’s another example of using a tool to communicate to your audience. These are examples of digital marketing.

Now, businesses can leverage digital channels, such as social media, search engines, emails and other sites to connect with their audience, right. So, it’s not necessarily just the channels that you may be thinking of like Instagram or LinkedIn.

Search engines are a good example of a channel that’s super popular and so is email. I know a lot of people are saying that email is dying, but they’ve been saying that for over 10 years and trust me, it is not dead. It’s being used more and more and more because it’s a cornerstone of corporate communication.

Now, there’s many different aspects of digital marketing.

Well, when someone lands on your website, that’s your brand, that’s your presence. How are you communicating that message out when people land? That’s all part of digital marketing.

Just like when you post an image on Facebook, sometimes that image is a photo, other times it’s a graphic. You may be using tools like Canva which is free to create that image. Now, there’s also traditional marketing.

So, I want to break down digital marketing versus traditional marketing so that way there’s no confusion.

Traditional marketing is essentially the same idea as digital marketing except the idea of the online component or the digital component. For example, traditional marketing would be using tools like billboards, print ads, magazines, newspapers, direct mail, phone calls, like dialing and saying hey, would you buy X, Y and Z from me versus using WhatsApp, which would be more digital. Doing direct phone calls, that would be more traditional. In other words, traditional encompasses a form of physical marketing.

Digital would be using tools like social media channels, emails, search engine optimization, blogging. You pretty much get the picture. So, why does digital marketing matter?

Well, Google and Facebook generate more revenue than any other traditional media company out there because they control more eyeballs. That’s why digital marketing matters. It’s where the attention is.

Look around you. Odds are at least half the people that you’re looking at right now have a phone and are on it, right. I’m not talking about the phones in the pocket, I’m talking about they’re literally on their phones. They got the Apple AirPods in their ears or headphones, they’re doing something with their phone. That’s where people’s attention and eyes are. If that’s where their eyes and attention is that’s where there’s money to be made.

Now, how many of you actually look at billboards? Chances are, a bus comes by with a billboard or you see a billboard on the street, you probably ignore it. That’s why Google and Facebook are much bigger than any traditional media company out there.

So, is digital marketing worth it for your business? Well, chances are it is. It’s worth it for almost every business out there other than ones that are like government related, and the reason being is government type businesses are more contract basis where you don’t really need digital marketing for that.

But, typically for almost every single business you can do well through digital marketing. Now, if you’re not sure on where you can get started with digital marketing, you can use tools like Ubersuggest. You can type in any of your competitor URLs or if you don’t know your competitors you can type in any keywords and Ubersuggest will show you all the people rank for it. That’ll give you ideas for competitors.

Marketing is an ever-evolving industry, so it’s no wonder that new marketing careers are always coming in. However, in 2020, marketing has seen two new big careers that are going to take off.

The first is a marketing data scientist.

One thing that marketing is for sure, there are a ton of different metrics to track. Numbers don’t lie, right? This is so important to be able to take these numbers and have a clear understanding with your audience their behavior on your site of what’s working, what’s not working, where companies should focus their time, and where they shouldn’t. Not only can it help you with your marketing strategy, but it also can help you with your overall business as well.

One of the biggest issues that I see in businesses and even ad agencies that are facing is how to take that data and make sense of it, and paint a clear, easy to understand the picture of a site’s performance, and a strategy of what they should do next.

See, here’s the thing, data scientists weren’t as needed five, 10 years ago because there weren’t as many sources, but now, just think about it, there’s paid ad, Google, Facebook, Pinterest, Taboola, Outbrain, the list keeps going on and on, there’s even Bing.

So that’s why a data scientist is so important because there are so many different metrics that are required to focus on from time on page, unique visitors versus returning versus cohort reports, balance rates, click-through rates, traffic, traffic growth rates, average time spent per visit, all these things are really important, and the list can keep going on and on about metrics that people should be tracking and ones that are confusing and hard to understand and because there are so many sources where you can get the data, a lot of times you’ll find discrepancies and companies are looking at, like, hey, who can help read this data, make clear and easy sense of this just because there’s way too much conflicting data out there.

Now, the job description for this job, according to Data Mania is generating perspective insights, tactical and strategic insights to improve marketing effectiveness, exploratory data analysis, advising and assisting management and other professionals in working with and understanding organizational data.

The average salary, according to Glassdoor, the national average salary for a marketing data analysis is $61,473 in the United States.

The skills required are understanding of online analytics data, strong communication skills, and statistical and machine-learning-based predictive modeling.

Now, director of growth marketing.

This is another job that is booming in the marketing world. One thing that I see a lot of in my ad agency is companies, these days, have a lot of issues with growth, and they’re finding that their growth is plateauing, and they’re becoming stagnant. Why? Because it’s the easiest time to start a business.

As Howard Schultz from Starbucks put it. “Now is the cheapest and most affordable time “to create a business.” But that’s caused everyone to just go out there and compete with you, which makes it harder to grow.

So these days, companies are looking for a growth marketer, and a growth marketer is someone who identifies a gap in the company, and they work with all departments to increase the overall ROI.

Now the job description is growth marketers are data-driven pros who work to find innovative ways to drive user acquisition, to keep customers engaged, to retain them, and ultimately, turn them into brand champions.

The average salary, according to Indy, for a growth marketer in the United States is $96,790. The skills required are brand storytelling, digital marketing, and data analytics, execution skills and marketing automation.

How Digital Marketing Will Change in 2020 (You’re Not Going to Like It) | Everything’s changing in 2020. According to Comscore, half the searches in 2020 will be voice search. Facebook reach, continually going down. Instagram reach, LinkedIn reach, all starting to go down as well. Stories, everyone’s doing stories. Going live, everyone has live now. Today, I’m going to break down how digital marketing will change in 2020, and what you should do.

The first trend I have for you, video reach will dramatically drop.

Everyone has figured out that video is an amazing form to connect with people, which is why everyone’s doing it. So the solution, multicast, right? Even though everyone’s doing video, that’s fine, you can’t do much about that, but what you can do is create more videos my focusing on just creating one video that works for all platforms.

So when you’re doing the videos and you go live, you’ll also notice that you’ll get more engagement, and because you’re live, they want to push it out, compete with the TV channels, right? Facebook even has contracts with some of the sports networks, same with like the YouTubes of the world.

So what they’re doing is when you go live, because they want to compete with television, they’re going to push it out to all your subscribers, everyone on their platform, and if you engage with them, you’ll get way more reach, and then when you release recorded videos that aren’t live, you’ll notice that they’ll get more love and more spread because you’ve been doing live videos at least once a month.

Trend number two, bite-sized educational interactive content is rising really fast. So, if you look at things like infographics, infographics are a really long visual where you just keep scrolling and scrolling and scrolling, and it ends up breaking down what that subject is all about.

A good example of this is my Instagram page. You’ll notice that I have pictures that’ll teach you how to do things like get more traffic on YouTube or Instagram, and you just keep swiping right, and in each image, I give you a one sentence overview of what you can do to maximize your traffic.

And that example that I’m using on Instagram, works extremely well. It works so well that each of those images get roughly 50% shares.

The third trend I have for you, search traffic will decrease dramatically on mobile.

On mobile devices these days, there’s more search snippets that are appearing and appearing. This is going to cause your mobile traffic to decrease.

So what I want you to do is use structured markup on your site, which will help you get the rich snippets, which will help you get more voice search traffic, which will help combat the decreasing mobile organic traffic.

The fourth trend, Google will keep doing a consolidation in different markets. So, right now, Google is going head-to-head with Amazon. There’s now a Buy Now on Google button. You can buy without even going to the e-commerce site.

Google’s going to be testing out more of these things to keep people on Google and making a purchase. Well don’t think of this as a bad thing; you could actually adapt to Google’s changes and generate more sales and traffic and leads.

For example, with some of the programs that they’re testing out, you can actually even generate a lead on Google without driving people back to your site. Let’s say you’re in the mortgage industry.

You can actually generate a lead on Google. The same goes with buying on Google with e-commerce stores.

You can sell your products directly on Google without people having to go to your website, which can also increase your revenue as well. Now, this is important because according to Jumpshot, 49% of all searches performed on Google result in no click.

Trend five, influencer marketing budgets will decrease.

Right now, social engagement is continually going down. According to analytics firm, InfluencerDB, it was revealed that influencer engagement rates are nearing all time lows.

So the way you want to combat this is, don’t pay influencers as much money, but find more and more influencers, and go after quantity. This will help you still generate good sales from influencer marketing.

The sixth trend, social media stories won’t be as popular and as easy to win on. See, everyone’s doing stories these days. People even unfollow stories they don’t care to engage with.

Trend number seven, shoppable experiences will get more and more adaptive.

Well a lot of people ask me this question that do they need to know coding and have technical knowledge????

The answer is NO…

Why you should listen to Digital Pratik? Who the hell is he?

Digital Pratik is an awesome happy worker.

A 3 times proud college dropout from final year of engineering college who started with his first ever call center job as an undergraduate in 2010 for just 9700 per month!

After working happily & hard achieved the position of customer service head for one of the call centers for UK process.

Meanwhile, as a side hustle was learning & applying seo, YouTube seo, blogging, email marketing, WordPress, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram etc !!!

Got my first ever digital marketing job as a digital marketing executive by end of 2014… It was 17000 per mo take away salary.

In 2015, got my digital marketing trainer job & got awarded as the awesome trainer by the working professionals themselves!

Meanwhile was putting out free content on youtube, Instagram, Facebook, Linkedin, Snapchat, blog, Quora, Pinterest, Social bookmarking websites etc & building my brand & managing freelancing projects too!

Started consuming Garyvee in 2015!

Left that job & Came back for my parents again in 2016 & thought of doing the client work full time! Made a lot more than that previous job but couldn’t manage my quality & i took that L on me. 100% accountability.

Till this point in time, there was no Digital Pratik!

It was always Pratiksinh Chudasama or lovepratiksinh or iphonepreneur or pratiksinhisawesome & all such kinda fancy entrepreneurial terms at times which made me feel guilty at times when i was alone. Coz, i was not 100% giving away my content for free. I was always expecting from my audience!

Now I was almost 27 years old. No job. Not able to manage client work. Was in financial crisis again! Had to take care of my parents. And always listening to Garyvee! So took a step back & started looking for a digital marketing job again!
